FASHION MEMO: THE 90s SLIP DRESS

June 13, 2019

The ’90s signature style of supermodels and celebrities made a major comeback in the last years. Certainly the slip dress has a long history, since the French queen Marie Antoinette caused a scandal wearing a simple white camisole dress when she was painted by Elisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun in 1783.

During the ’90s the slip dress exploded in popularity, from Gwyneth Paltrow to Madonna, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy was married in a white Narciso Rodriguez slip dress, and of course the ’90s style icon Kate Moss who made the slip dress her signature look. Francisco Costa designer for Calvin Klein in the ’90s said “A slip dress gives that idea of getting up in the morning, throwing on his coat over your dress and running to the shop”.

Here are my season’s favorite slip dresses:

MAXI SLIP DRESS

The long slip dress is a beautiful alternative to the classic evening dress. It’s feminine, sensual and convinces with its minimalism. You should pay attention to the nature of the material, especially fine silks can be too sensitive for everyday use.

MINI & MIDI SLIP DRESS

The mini and midi slip dress reminds a little of negligés. It ends above the knee and has a V-neck or round neck. This style is particularly very sexy and it’s perfect for a party night.
