Winter, spring, summer, fall – everyone has a grasp on these four seasons and their corresponding weather patterns. This time I want to talk about the styles I am looking up for spring/summer 2017. The S/S 17 collections are full of life, prompting new fashion ideals, fresh trends and playful cuts. It’s a time where (almost) everything can be personalized and tailored to you, where every style need not apply and being unique—and oh-so-true to one’s self—comes above all other desires. The ’80s continued to pick up steam as the season’s biggest trend in the form of bold and boxy blazers. But this season there are also plenty of new style ideas, especially on the accessories front — namely XL bags, tiny bags, waist cinchers, and statement headpieces.
So what are you actually going to wear on repeat this year? Which colors are best to wear? Which pieces make the biggest impact? Who and what are we all going to be obsessing over? So many questions. That’s why I collected some of my favorite fashion trends for 2017.
#1 ONE SHOULDER SPLIT
The spring 2017 fashion trends have an answer to this summer’s off-the-shoulder phenomenon: the one-shoulder top (or dress). Loving to see many designers who continued the off-the-shoulder trend again for this season.
#2 WHITE SHIRT DRESSES
I have been wearing lot of white shirt dresses last spring, and I will continue wearing them this season as well. Pick up a bunch of these to add to your workwear rotation and combine your oversized shirts with statement accessories, such as waist belts and statement earrings.
#3 SLEEVE SLITS
Flared sleeves were all the rage last year, but now it’s all about the slit.
#4 WAIST CINCHERS
Call it “waist trainer” effect, but designers from J.W. Anderson at Loewe to Isabel Marant spotlighted the midsection with bold, cinching accessories that had a corset-like effect. Funny that I’ve been wearing waist cinchers apporximately ten years ago and now this trend is becoming hot.
#5 PINK IS NEW BLACK
Deep pink or fuchsia, is becoming fashion’s official favorite new color this season, beginning with the neon looks we saw during NYFW, continuing throughout Europe, then coming full circle again during PFW and MFW.
#6 ’80s GLAM
If there was ever a time to raid your mom’s closet for flashy clothing from the ’80s, it’s now. The decade was a major theme throughout the spring ’17 shows, and Paris designers (Anthony Vaccarello at Saint Laurent, Nicolas Ghesquière at Vuitton and Demna Gvasalia at Balenciaga) took it to the next level with puffy sleeves, ruching galore and embellishments that looks like Dynasty 2.0.
#7 KHAKI LOVE
There is something about a crisp khaki pair of slacks or knee-length dress that feels fresh and out of the ordinary for this time of year. A heavier fabric than most, it’s versatile enough to act as a proper substitute for your trusted blue jeans or black trousers.
